Unlike other tools, you don't seem to be automatically subscribed to a forum when you post.

Ideally, next to the "Post" button, we could include a "Subscribe" checkbox. Might be useful to roll out to all tools (that allow comments) as well.

Also related, there's no "envelope" subscribe button in the upper right of a thread like for other tools. I'd expect there to be one there.

I checked several of those boxes on that forum & clicked the "Update Email Subscriptions" button at page bottom, but still don't receive email notifications. They're not getting filtered as spam. I'm not sure if there are other settings in my acct that need changing.

In my user acct, I changed setting under Account>Preferences, to "accept all mail."
Also changed my email address, in case old one has gotten cross wise w/ SF's system. Unless that takes a day or so to start receiving notifications to new address, still not receiving them, though there were replies to my posts, after changed my email address.

If that is the way receiving email notifications now works, it seems like a lot of trouble to have to check a box beside each post AND click another button - Update Email Notifications.

Most forums (if you have selective choice whether to receive notices for topics you participated in, or not), just have a circle or 2 at bottom of posting / reply box, that says, "Receive email notices," or "Subscribe to / monitor this," or similar.

Either way, still doesn't seem to work for me.

It's harder to remember to check a box on main forum page, after finished posting, than to check a box right on the composing page - like most forums do, if they have such selective choice. Many are "all or nothing" on email notices, unless go into your acct control panel & remove topics from monitoring.

On SF forums, you can ONLY receive email notifications for ALL posts / replies activity in a monitored forum; not for a single topic.

There are no user acct settings to opt in to receive notices on topics you created or participate in - period.

With SF's forum software, it's "monitor entire forum" or nothing. Most users don't want that - it can flood your inbox.

Per-thread subscriptions were fixed some time ago, but if you create a thread it still doesn't auto-subscribe you like tickets do for example.

    Some background:

    • [#194] originally added auto-subscribe for tickets & wikis.
      • also applied to posting on any item (ticket, wiki, blog post, merge request)
      • forum posts didn't get it, perhaps by chance, due to the way their threads are a bit different than threads attached to another artifact
    • [#3563] removed auto-subscribe for wikis

    Done in db/5461

QA: Check create/edit/post for all artifacts that have discussion threads (checked by searching for c.thread.display usage) listed below. Check your subscription status (esp. if you are already subscribed to the whole tool).

    • blog post
    • wiki page
    • discussion forum
    • ticket
    • merge request
    • bare thread - not exposed anywhere. To get a url, add an attachment to any type of discussion thread. Then get the URL of that attachment and drop off the attachment and short slug portions, e.g. /p/test/tickets/_discuss/thread/58a487c2b4/

I also made the 'cancel' link better for nested replies and new comments. And tightened up the ticket form layout.
