#1918 Fix git path in tool-less migration script

Projects using hg or git default to a repo with the project name. There may be others. The Hg migration grabs the one of the project name. The Git migration omits the project-name from the repo url and fails.

Fix the git url. Also, in case the repos have changed, fail gracefully if the remote url doesn't work.
