#4804 Discussion notifications are not recognized as a single discussion by Gmail [ss1926]

The notifications sent when a forum/discussion post is updated are not recognized as conversations (threaded) by Gmail. I have attached a text document with two notification emails (addresses sanitized) generated by posts from the same user in the same thread that appeared as separate conversations in Gmail.
[forge:site-support:#5182] and [#6328] indicate that "In-Reply-To:" and "References:" are what we're looking for.
